Within weeks of starting school your child may be more tired, more emotional, with meltdowns at pickup that seem out of proportion. A small body held itself together for six hours and then reached the one person safe enough to fall apart with. The meltdown at pickup is trust, an achievement, and the reunion is the most important moment of the school day: be present, be calm, snack in hand, no questions. Let them move before homework; the body is doing construction work on the abilities school will demand.
