The Conference, From Our Side of the Table

Community-reviewedCommunity edition, August 2026

A page for the educator, from the families. We get one fifteen-minute slot for the person we love most in the world, and many of us arrive carrying old stories: schools that dismissed our parents, meetings where our English was treated as our intelligence, rooms where our children were described in words we knew were not the whole story. When we seem quiet or guarded, what you are seeing is usually history, not indifference. What helps more than anything is one sentence: tell us a single thing you see in our child that no assessment measures. We will carry it for months, and after it we can hear anything else as partners instead of defendants. And borrow what we know: we are the archive of what steadies this child and what their behavior means. You see our child in a room we never see; we see them in every room you never will. Read together, the views come close.
